Film Series: “Bicycle Thieves” aka “Ladri e biciclette”
Join the American Italian Cultural Center for its screening of Bicycle Thieves. Directed by Vittorio De Sica, this neorealist film follows the story of a poor father in search of his stolen bicycle. Without the bike, he will lose his job and be unable to support his young family. Film Series: “Miracle in Milan” aka “Miracolo a Milano”
Join the American Italian Cultural Center for its screening of Miracle in Milan. This 1951 Vittorio De Sica film co-written with Cesare Zavattini is based on his novel Totò il Buono. A neo-realist fable, Miracle in Milan follows the life of Totò, an abandoned baby adopted by Lolotta, a kind old woman. After Lolotta's death, Totò is sent to an orphanage. Film Series: “Everybody’s Lady” aka “La signora di tutti”
Join the American Italian Cultural Center for its screening of Everybody's Lady. Master filmmaker Max Ophüls fled to Italy in 1934 with the rise of Nazism. In the film, Gabriella Murge is a famous film star and fascinating adventuress with whom men cannot help falling in love. Join the AICC for its screening of Stromboli! This Roberto Rossellini movie stars the talented, Ingrid Bergman and Mario Vitale. The film follows the life of Karen, a young Lithuanian woman who escapes an internment camp by marrying Antonio, an Italian POW fisherman.
