Did you know that you may already be an Italian citizen?
If you descend from an Italian citizen, or if you have an ancestor born in Italy, you may be eligible for Italian citizenship! Obtaining Italian citizenship would allow you – while maintaining your American citizenship – to reconnect to your cultural background, to obtain an Italian passport for you and your family, and to live, work, retire and freely travel in Italy as well as in any other country in the European Union.
Since every person’s situation is unique, and the process can be complicated, but we will guide you step-by-step to prepare a successful application that will allow you to obtain Italian dual citizenship.
The American Italian Cultural Center can assist in obtaining and translating the required documents and handle your application from start to finish at an affordable rate.
Below is the steps to begin your Dual Citizenship Journey:
1- Download, and fill out, the Ancestral Chart and Dual Citizenship forms located below.
Once the forms are completed and returned to us, it should allow us to make a proper assessment of your situation, and hopefully determine your eligibility. Please do not be concerned if you do not have all of the documents on the “checklist”; not all will be necessary. Please just fill out the forms to the best of your ability.
2-Return forms to our office, and pay the application fee. The program cost to analyze a new file is $150, the fee also includes a one hour consultation (upon analysis of your file)
The $150 fee may be paid by check, cash, or credit card through the AICC office at the time your questionnaires are submitted.
If you choose to make your payment for the application fee online, here is the link to our website to make that payment: https://americanitalianculturalcenter.com/aicc-donate/
Also make sure to include your name, email, address, and phone number, and include a note in the comments section, that you’re making a donation for the Dual Citizenship Program.
Please note that we will review your documents only after the $150 payment has been received.
3-Wait for your consultation appointment. Because of the considerable interest in the program, and a desire to be accurate, it takes approximately 2 months to review your file. Once the review has been completed, we will reach out to you to schedule your consultation. We appreciate your patience and understanding in the meantime.
4-Your consultation appointment. Our Director of Italian Affairs, Andrea, will work with you to develop a game plan for a successful application, and during this one hour meeting, she will be able to answer any questions you may have. The consultation can be done in person, or via a Zoom meeting. When you are contacted about your consultation appointment, you can let us know how you would like to proceed with your consultation.
If you are a resident of Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, or Oklahoma your consulate would be located in Houston Texas: https://conshouston.esteri.it/consolato_houston/en/i_servizi/per_i_cittadini/cittadinanza
If you are not a resident of the above listed states, let us know, and we can let you know what consulate you will be working with to attain your citizenship recognition.
Please Note: the consulate will not take a case, unless a file is complete. We recommend not scheduling an appointment with them, until your file has been completed.
We look forward to working with you!
